Youth Engagement Coordinator

Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) is a community-based organization whose mission is to foster collaborative Rice County communities that empower youth, strengthen families, and build community.
HCI works with community partners to foster collaboration and support community-driven efforts that benefit youth and families. HCI strives to build the capacity of the community to serve its young people more effectively.
HCI seeks a full-time coordinator to lead youth-focused initiatives in the Faribault community.
Tasks
Amplify Youth Voice in the Faribault School District
- The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work with the Faribault Public Schools (FPS) to support youth in grades 6-12 serving on a variety of district committees, including the School Board and District Youth Council, engaging in discussions and providing input as decisions are made that impact students’ experience and outcomes.
- Facilitate the marketing, recruitment, placement, training, communication and ongoing support of youth participants on school district boards and committees
- Lead effective communication with and provide training and support to FPS staff and leadership who are hosting youth on district committees
- Convene the FPS District Youth Council twice per month, engaging students in thoughtful discussion regarding strengths and challenges of the FPS education system
- Assist students in sharing feedback about barriers and challenges and ideas for solutions with School Board members and district administrators
- Facilitate youth involvement in and planning for twice-per-year youth data summits; support youth to compile and share feedback with administrators that drives system level change to promote improved outcomes for students
- Ensure youth voice is represented during the interview processes for key school district positions
Faribault Youth on Boards Program
- The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work with the City of Faribault, the Faribault Chamber of Commerce, and multiple nonprofit organizations to create opportunities for youth in grades 10-12 to serve on a variety of boards and commissions.
- Facilitate the marketing, recruitment, placement, training, communication and ongoing support of youth participants
- Perform outreach, training, and technical assistance to organizations hosting youth on boards and commissions to create welcoming spaces for youth
- Assist students in providing regular feedback, ideas, and solutions to the City of Faribault and the leadership of the organizations with which they serve
- Expand the number of organizations providing positions for youth annually
Prevention Partners for Healthy Youth (PPHY)
- The Youth Engagement Coordinator will work with engaged partners including; Faribault Public Schools, Rice County Chemical and Mental Health Coalition, HealthFinders Collaborative, Somali Community Resettlement Services, WAANO, and other interested parties to engage youth in grades 6-12 in the work of the PPHY initiative.
- Facilitate the marketing, recruitment, placement, training, communication and ongoing support of youth participants
- Assist students in providing regular feedback, ideas, and solutions to the PPHY Coordinator on how best to support youth in the Faribault community
Required qualities
- 2-5 years of experience in youth development or related field
- Ability to quickly build positive relationships with youth and adult partners
- Passion for equity, social justice and working with diverse youth
- Ability to maintain focus on long-range goals while simultaneously carrying out intermediate action steps
- Ability to understand multiple diverse perspectives and build consensus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Highly organized with superior attention to detail
- Familiarity with evaluation processes – data collection, analysis and continuous improvement
- Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude – excellent ability to multitask and troubleshoot issues
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
- Ability to work select evening and weekend hours
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, and Excel) and Google Suite
- Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license and auto insurance and be able to travel throughout the Faribault community
- Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of HCI
- Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment
Preferred qualities
- Familiarity with Rice County and its organizations
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali
