Joined the HCI team in 2019
Leslie has a bachelor’s degree in social work. Before joining the HCI team, she was the support services manager for Somali Resettlement Services in Faribault, where she helped Somali and Latine students who were at risk for not graduating.
As ParentChild+ Director, Leslie is responsible for supervising a small team of Early Learning Specialists (ELS), program implementation, and the recruitment and enrollment of program participants. She also maintains a small home-visiting caseload, meeting with families in their homes twice per week to model effective ways for parents to increase their verbal interaction with their young children through the use of carefully selected books and toys. The work that she mainly focuses on is making sure the PC+ team is serving families by providing weekly educational books and toys. She also helps families navigate through the system by getting them connected to resources within the community, such as housing, food access, early learning educational opportunities, translation support, and emergency assistance help. She also provides support to ParentChild+ staff as needed to make sure they are serving their families at their highest capacity.
Leslie’s favorite part about her job is having the flexibility to meet families where they are and the time that best fits in their schedules. She enjoys seeing the progress in each child and being able to witness families build a stronger bond. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as she reads and plays with them is what she enjoys the most!
Fun fact: One of Leslie’s favorite hobbies is sitting down with her five children to watch a movie and eat their favorite snacks (hot Cheetos and Takis along with a cold Brisk Tea).
