Joy has a bachelor’s degree in news-editorial journalism from Drake University. She is a former newspaper reporter and a longtime freelance writer and editor. She also served on the HCI Board for 10 years when her children were young.
As the Communications Manager, Joy writes and edits content for e-newsletters, annual reports, flyers and brochures, press releases, and social media posts. She works closely with the communications coordinator and the graphic designer to tell compelling stories about the ways in which HCI improves education and economic opportunity for youth and families in Rice County.
The thing she likes most about working at HCI is that she’s always learning something new and feeling inspired by her coworkers.
Fun Fact: Joy is the author of Crackerjack Bands and Hometown Boosters: The Story of a Minnesota Music Man. It’s a nonfiction book about how music connects people across generations.
