Candace has a bachelor of arts in political science from Bemidji State University and a graduate certificate in organizational leadership from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. She is a first-generation college student and participated in TRIO (student support services). Before she joined HCI, Candace was employed in higher education in roles that supported students.
As a Student Support Specialist, Candace works with NCCC-supported students, including TORCH alumni. She helps students navigate their career and higher education pathways, assisting with school options, admissions applications, financial aid applications, scholarship applications, arranging tutoring, check-ins, and cheerleading student accomplishments. Candace also manages the FAIM (Family Assets for Independence in Minnesota) program for Northfield and focuses on financial literacy education for NCCC-supported students – Credit is Power!
Candace’s favorite aspect of her role is navigating higher education with students. “Higher education can be super overwhelming! HCI staff have the same goal: making things better for everyone. Having that camaraderie is wonderful,” she said.
Fun fact: Candace is the child of two military veterans and spent most of her childhood on military bases in the South. She misses the warmth of the South in the Minnesota winters, but likes to eat large amounts of fruits while they are in season here, especially blueberries and strawberries!
