YouthBank is an innovative philanthropy program in which a team of trained youth grant-makers awards funds to youth-led projects that will improve the quality of life in Northfield.

The 2025-2026 grant round is centered on adding youth-centered third spaces to Northfield. “Third spaces” are places outside of home, school, or work where people can gather, feel welcome, and build community at little to no cost. More broadly, third spaces can also include groups or activities that foster connection and a sense of belonging, not just physical locations.

Applications are evaluated using the following criteria:

  • Youth-led: A group of at least 3 young people has the idea, applies for the money, and makes it happen.
  • Clear and realistic plan to meet the project goal.
  • Good value for the money.
  • Will have a positive impact on young people in our community.
  • Addresses issues of equity within our community.
  • Requests a minimum of $500 per project.

Last year, Northfield YouthBank funded five projects, granting a total of $7,390: A hydroponic garden tower for Arcadia Charter School; a book suggestion box and new books for the Northfield Middle School media center; spring lacrosse camp and free equipment for the high school girls’ lacrosse team; properly-sized equipment for the Nordic Ski Team and their new members; and scholarships for RoboRaiders, Northfield’s Robotics Team, to attend additional competitions. Read more about previously funded projects on our website and encourage youth in your life to submit an application! Applications are due by Jan. 22, 2026.
