Healthy Community Initiative

Being able to drive to school for many students is not a luxury, but a necessity.  There are many students who are the only licensed drivers in their family, and they are responsible for dropping off relatives at work prior to coming to school, or they have a job after school that they need to get to right away and can’t take the bus to do so.  The TORCH Youth Advisory Board researched the number of students in the program that have a hard time purchasing a parking permit and applied for a grant to cover two-thirds of the permit costs for these students.  The free parking lot is a long walk from school and in the winter it is through snow. Being able to park near the school without the fear of their car being towed is an issue of equity that the YouthBank team felt was important to address.
