Healthy Community Initiative

In the 2024 election season, Mayor’s Youth Council will work to expand voter engagement through
three key initiatives: a (pre)registration drive, a Mayoral Candidate forum, and participating in
Minnesota Students Vote. Through these activities, MYC will increase youth knowledge of voting
practices and procedures, hear and interact directly with candidates, and increase the number of young
people registered to vote.

Studies show that the earlier a person starts voting, the more likely they are to consistently vote.
Participating in Students Vote allows high school students to see a ballot, and practice casting a vote
before they cast their first ballot, effectively allowing youth to start the voting “clock” two to four years
before they would normally be able to.
