Black Student Union – Rondo Neighborhood Field Trip

December 2022

The Rondo neighborhood in St. Paul is a traditionally black native neighborhood, known for its rich culture and black roots. Black culture in general, and particularly black culture in Minnesota, is not talked about. Unlike their white counterparts at school, Northfield High School’s black student population does not have many opportunities to learn about their history. A field trip to to Rondo will give them an opportunity to gain a little insight into their history.  During the field trip they will also attend the play, “Inspired by Claudette and Rosa” based on the lives of Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks and eat at three black-owned restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dessert. Additional funds from the grant will be used to provide food during the Black Student Union meetings, making sure that attending is easy and accessible for all members.
