Healthy Community Initiative

The aim of the bathroom equity project is to create greater equity for menstruating people and transgender/non-binary people at Northfield High School.  With the grant funds received this group will work to create two gender-neutral bathrooms that will be supplied with menstrual products.  In addition, the grant will supply all women’s bathrooms in the high school with free menstrual products.  The three high school students who created the project recognized that for their peers who identify as transgender, gender non-binary or gender non-conforming a traditional bathroom can feel like an unsafe space to be.  Creating gender-neutral bathrooms increases the feeling of inclusiveness in the high school for these students and providing free menstrual supplies is helpful to all who menstruate, but especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who may have a hard time affording the supplies themselves.
