HCI Senior Director

Full-time, permanent, 40 hours per week

Healthy Community Initiative (HCI) strives to make Rice County, Minnesota, a place where youth want to grow up, live, work, and give back to the community. We collaborate on 25+ initiatives in Northfield and Faribault that empower youth and strengthen families.

HCI builds bridges between organizations and pulls partners together to look strategically at community issues and solutions. Our work has been nationally recognized as a model for improving outcomes for children and youth and leading systems changes.

Summary

Support program director(s) to supervise and support staff members; oversee and manage data tracking and grant reporting; monitor progress related to programmatic outcomes and deliverables; lead the development and implementation of new and innovative strategies; and help to manage related budgets.

Tasks

  • Serve as part of HCI’s staff leadership team and convene select HCI committees
  • Work with community partners to identify needs facing Rice County youth and families – propose, develop, and implement collaborative, innovative solutions to address them
  • Oversee programming and provide staff supervision for strategic HCI initiatives
  • Support the quality work performance of program staff
  • Organize and oversee the schedules and work of program directors and staff
  • Ensure each program has appropriate staff to meet objectives
  • Ensure program directors manage their programs/departments efficiently and in accordance with stated goals, grant outcomes, and HCI’s overall strategic focus
  • Coordinate with program directors to establish goals and criteria to be used in performance evaluations for assigned staff
  • Coordinate with human resources contact to respond to employee concerns or complaints
  • Ensure that programs comply with organizational policies and safety standards
  • Conduct ongoing performance discussions that are timely and constructive
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed and in accordance with organization policy
  • Guide program staff in their work with community members and other stakeholders to identify needs and solutions
  • Oversee data tracking and analysis, and engage program staff in reflective discussion to determine the effectiveness of programs; support program staff to pivot and adjust programmatic services as needed (suggest and implement improvements to programs and services)
  • Lead the planning and implementation of programmatic communications strategies, including outreach activities to improve community awareness of programs
  • Write grant reports; manage grant/program budgets

Required qualities

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Five years of related nonprofit leadership and/or program management experience, including budget management
  • Ability to multi-task and manage complicated workflows
  • Capable of completing work on time in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Experience effectively supervising staff and supporting professional development
  • Experience writing well-thought and complete grant reports
  • Experience convening and leading meetings that involve stakeholders from a variety of sectors (e.g. local government leadership, school district personnel, nonprofit partners, etc.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent ability to solve problems and troubleshoot issues
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
  • Ability to work select evening hours and to travel within Rice County (must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota driver’s license)
  • Willingness to maintain the standards, carry out the purpose, and adhere to the policies of the Healthy Community Initiative
  • Maintenance of a cell phone is an expectation of employment

Preferred qualities

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Familiarity with Northfield, Faribault, and Rice County organizations and resources
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Somali
